Very insightful in understanding empire, its practical operations and easy to relate to aspect of our modern day to day, the example and princple of empire being extractive was very good and it can be seen in many facets of western life, it is not about how the state can serve me rather it is skewed how can I serve the state at my own expense.

this format of discussion was very good, alot of information in little time.

Thank you! The questions we ask at Dystopia Unmasked are: 1) how did we get here? 2) how do we get somewhere that is actually to our benefit beyond empire?

Interesting conversation.

My husband and his family; parents and grandparents are from Gianna. This is interesting in terms of family history. And Movements of people within the ‘Empire’. And how the Empire extracted from the land and the people. As it always does, in one form or another.

Thanks for your well informed analysis and historical context as it relates to where we are today.

Thank you for your comments. It has been fascinating for ourselves and the history of our families. We really got to examine up close the forces that shaped identities that we take for granted. We usually ask 2 main questions: 1) How did we get here? 2) How the hell do we get to somewhere that really suits us?

Great two questions as a starting place. If you don’t mind I might use those too?

Forgive me, I just noticed that I spelled Guyana incorrectly. Possibly the spell check. But interesting that most Americans, where we live are unfamiliar with that region, country or history, by and large.

Often we encounter people who think that Guyana is in Africa.

But the American school systems have failed to really teach much geography or history outside of the Eurocentric world view.

Please feel free. I believe that asking these questions will place us in exceedingly good historical company! I welcome the company.

It's ok I am surrounded by people with dyslexia and am accustomed to translating. As Mark Twain said, "Don't let schooling be an excuse to not get yourself an education." Let's keep talking about it and they will increasingly become aware. What passes for history is much of what has gotten us into this mess. And the Eurocentric world view really collapses when placed under scrutiny, but it is so central to identities that people tend to react violently to the experience of the collapse. But it's collapsing and there isn't much that can be done to maintain it. The scholars of the Classics and Archeology are particularly in revolt and they are speaking up! We are at fresh crossroads and I pray that our journey and destination be blessed.
